Safeguarding

Wolvercote Primary School is committed to all aspects of safeguarding and to promoting the welfare of all children.

This is the responsibility of every adult in the school and we work together with other agencies to ensure that comprehensive arrangements exist within our setting to identify and support those children who are suffering harm or are likely to suffer harm.

Recruitment

Our staff selection and recruitment procedures ensure that all staff, including volunteers, who have unsupervised access to children, have been appropriately checked for their suitability including DBS checks in accordance with current legislation.

School Curriculum

Our school provides a safe, caring, positive and stimulating environment that promotes the social, physical and moral development of the individual child free from discrimination or bullying. The curriculum is designed to ensure opportunities for children to develop the skills they need to recognise and stay safe from abuse. Children know that they can approach any of the adults in school if they are worried and that they will receive a consistent supportive response.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and to protect them from harm. When a safeguarding concern is raised, our first priority is the welfare of the child. Where we are concerned about a child, we will always aim to discuss our concerns with a parent, unless we believe that such an action would be detrimental to the child's welfare. In all cases of concern, we follow the procedures outlined in our Safeguarding Policy, gaining advice or making referrals to other agencies as appropriate.

Child protection

Child protection is part of the safeguarding process. It focuses on protecting individual children identified as suffering or likely to suffer significant harm. This includes child protection procedures which detail how to respond to concerns about a child.
